Most US city pairs still construct over Tokyo or an Asian hub — but the calculus has genuinely shifted for West Coast departures.

The pricing question is always Osaka-direct versus Tokyo-plus. Through-fares over Haneda or Narita put you on the widest schedule with the deepest contract space, then hand you to a domestic hop or the Shinkansen — Tokyo to Shin-Osaka in two and a half hours, city centre to city centre.
