Tokyo is the deepest business market across the Pacific: ANA and JAL from a dozen North American gateways, joint ventures pairing ANA with United and JAL with American, and Delta flying alongside on its own. Where that much premium capacity meets corporate contract demand, consolidator allocations follow — Tokyo discounts more reliably than any other Asian city.

Haneda is the airport you want. It sits thirty minutes from the central wards while Narita sits sixty to ninety, and the slot reallocations of recent years moved most US flying there. Narita services still matter for one reason: they price softer. If your schedule can absorb the longer transfer, the Narita arrival is often the cheapest flat bed into Japan.

The joint ventures compete hard enough that carrier choice is usually a price decision, not a product one — ANA’s The Room is the standout cabin, and we flag which aircraft carries it on every quote. Through-fares onward to Osaka, Fukuoka or Sapporo add little and sometimes nothing.

Tokyo: common questions

Haneda or Narita for a Tokyo business trip?

Haneda, unless the fare difference is four figures — then Narita deserves a look. The N’EX and limousine bus make Narita workable, but Haneda’s proximity to Marunouchi and Shinjuku is worth an hour of your arrival day, and most negotiated inventory now flies there anyway.

Which carrier has the best business class to Tokyo?

ANA’s The Room is the benchmark — closer to first than business — but it flies on specific 777s. JAL’s new A350 suite is close behind. The US carriers are competitive and often cheaper on contract fares; on a 13-hour daytime flight, the price gap frequently matters more than the seat gap.

Do negotiated Tokyo fares allow stopovers in Japan?

Most allow onward domestic segments at minimal cost rather than formal stopovers — Osaka or Kyoto via Tokyo prices nearly flat. True multi-city (into Tokyo, out of Osaka) also constructs cleanly. Ask with the full itinerary; the fare rules differ by contract.
