Los Angeles is the only West Coast airport where every direction runs deep: the full Pacific schedule to Asia and Australia, nonstop Europe on a dozen flags, the Gulf carriers’ westernmost US outpost and Latin America besides. Whatever the corridor, somebody flies it from LAX in a flat bed — usually several somebodies, which is where negotiated pricing gets its leverage.
The market’s size cuts both ways. Demand is broad enough that published fares rarely collapse, but the sheer number of competing carriers keeps the contract channel honest: on London, Tokyo and Sydney the private ladders run wide, and the one-stop constructions over hub cities add a second tier of value the booking engines rank poorly.
