Fifth-freedom route

A flight an airline operates between two countries that are both foreign to it — Emirates between Milan and New York, Singapore Airlines between Frankfurt and New York. Fifth-freedom sectors often carry flagship cabins at pricing set to fill, not to defend a home market, making them recurring bargains for travellers flexible enough to use them.
