Bangkok has no nonstop service from the United States, which turns the whole market into a construction exercise, and construction is where negotiated fares shine. Every itinerary routes over a hub, and the hub choice moves the price by thousands.
The families: North Pacific routings via Tokyo, Seoul or Taipei on the Japanese, Korean and Taiwanese carriers; Gulf routings via Doha or Dubai; and Turkish over Istanbul. Published through-fares of $5,000 to $6,500 negotiate to roughly $2,800 to $4,000 depending on family and season, with the North Pacific usually fastest and the Gulf frequently cheapest.
Arrival is straightforward: Suvarnabhumi handles the long-haul, the rail link reaches the centre in half an hour, and onward hops to the islands or Chiang Mai cost little on the same ticket when booked as a through-fare rather than improvised locally.

Bangkok: common questions
Which routing family should I want to Bangkok?
From the West Coast, the North Pacific: shorter elapsed time and excellent cabins via Tokyo, Seoul or Taipei. From the East Coast, the Gulf routings become competitive on both time and price, and Qatar’s Qsuite via Doha is often the best product on the table.
Does the connection make the trip miserable?
Less than the hours suggest. The good hubs break twenty-plus hours into two sleeps with a shower between, and many travellers arrive fresher than a single ultra-long sector would leave them. Connection quality is a real selection criterion, and we treat it as one.
How do the islands fit into a Bangkok fare?
As through-fare continuations: Phuket, Samui or Chiang Mai add modestly when built into the original ticket, keep bags checked through, and stay protected when the long-haul moves. Booking them separately is the common and costly mistake.
