Thailand splits cleanly into two premium markets. Bangkok is the hub: an Asian megacity with corporate demand underneath the tourism, served by every major carrier through the Asian, Gulf and European constructions. Phuket and the southern coast are pure resort traffic, priced by the monsoon and reached either through Bangkok or — increasingly the better answer — nonstop from the Gulf hubs.
That second point is worth stating plainly, because most travellers assume everything goes through Bangkok. Emirates and Qatar fly Phuket directly from Dubai and Doha, which removes a domestic sector entirely and puts an excellent cabin on the long half of the journey. For a beach-focused trip, that construction frequently prices below Bangkok plus a connection and arrives in far better shape.
The calendar governs both halves. High season runs November through April — dry, busy, and compressed hard around Christmas, New Year and Chinese New Year, when premium space sells through rather than repricing. The green season from May to October costs dramatically less for weather that is showery rather than ruinous, and it is when the negotiated channel opens widest on every routing into the country.
Thailand cities we cover in depth
Thailand: common questions
Do I have to fly through Bangkok to reach the islands?
No — Emirates and Qatar reach Phuket nonstop from their hubs, and that construction often prices below a Bangkok routing while removing a domestic leg. Bangkok remains the right door when the city is part of the trip or when the fare favours it.
When is business class to Thailand cheapest?
May through October, the green season, when leisure demand thins across the whole country. Avoid booking late into Christmas, New Year and Chinese New Year — those weeks compress every routing into Southeast Asia at once.
Can one ticket cover Bangkok and the coast?
Yes, and it should — through-fares carry the domestic sector to Phuket, Krabi or Koh Samui at a small increment, protected against misconnections after a twenty-hour journey. Separate domestic tickets are the classic false economy here.
