Lyon anchors the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes economy: pharmaceuticals, chemistry, banking and one of Europe’s serious food cultures, with the Alps an hour east and Provence two hours south. Delta has flown seasonal nonstops from New York; the year-round premium route is a through-fare over Paris, Amsterdam, Frankfurt or Istanbul, with the last leg either a short flight or — often better — the train.
That is the distinctive thing about Lyon. Charles de Gaulle has its own TGV station, and Lyon is two hours away by rail from under the terminal; Paris city centre to Lyon is the same. A negotiated transatlantic fare into CDG plus a train ticket regularly beats any construction that flies the final sector, and it is faster door to door than the connection once you count the transfer.
Demand is corporate and steady rather than seasonal, with two hard spikes: the pharmaceutical and biotech congresses that fill the city several times a year, and the ski-season Saturdays when Lyon serves as an alternative gateway to the northern Alps. Around those, book early; the rest of the year Lyon prices comfortably.

Should I fly or take the train for the last leg to Lyon?
The train, usually. CDG has a TGV station beneath Terminal 2, the run to Lyon is about two hours, and it avoids a second boarding and baggage cycle. We price the flying construction too, but for Lyon the rail finish is faster and cheaper more often than not.
Is Lyon a sensible gateway for the French Alps?
For the northern resorts, yes — it is roughly an hour to the valley roads, and often cheaper than Geneva on the same dates. Geneva remains closer to the Chamonix and Portes du Soleil side, so we compare both when the resort could take either.
When is business class to Lyon most expensive?
The major pharmaceutical and biotech congresses, and Saturdays in ski season when Alpine transfer demand peaks. Both compress premium space on the Paris constructions as well as locally. Midweek travel outside congress dates is reliably the value option.
