Nice is the second-busiest French gateway, but its transatlantic schedule is seasonal at heart: Delta and United run New York and Newark nonstops through the warm months, and the rest of the year the Riviera connects — over Paris on the Air France shuttle-like feed, or over any European hub with a southbound leg. The premium market swings with that schedule more than published fares let on.
Event weeks are the defining feature. The Monaco Grand Prix, the Cannes film and advertising festivals, and the yachting September stack demand into narrow windows where every cabin on every routing sells — those weeks are booked months ahead or paid for dearly. Around them, the Riviera is surprisingly reasonable: June or September midweek quotes in negotiated business run far closer to the standard European band than the destination’s reputation suggests.
Out of season, the Paris construction is the honest answer — a through-fare over CDG rides the same ticket to a ninety-minute domestic hop, and Air France’s negotiated ladder prices the whole journey generously. For itineraries that touch both the coast and the capital, an open-jaw into Nice and out of Paris costs barely more than either alone.

Nice: common questions
Can I fly nonstop to Nice in winter?
Not from the US — the nonstops run roughly May through October. Winter itineraries connect over Paris, Amsterdam, Frankfurt or London, and the constructions price well because the Riviera’s winter demand is thin. The connection adds two to three hours door to door.
How far ahead must I book around Grand Prix or Cannes weeks?
Three to six months for any sensible number. Those weeks compress premium space across nonstops and connections alike, and contract allocations sell through entirely. If your dates are fixed to an event, early booking is the only lever that works.
Is the through-fare over Paris really cheaper than the nonstop?
Frequently, even in summer. Air France prices Nice as a domestic add-on to its transatlantic ladder, and the combined fare often lands under the seasonal nonstop’s quote. The trade is time: the connection adds a Paris transfer. We put both on every Riviera quote.
