Bereavement fare

A discounted or flexible fare some airlines offer for travel to a funeral or family emergency, usually requiring documentation. The honest modern picture: many carriers have retired the discount entirely, and where it survives it often lands above the best bookable fare anyway. What still matters is flexibility on short notice — and that is precisely where negotiated contracts with short advance-purchase windows do their best work. Call; do not assume the bereavement desk is the best door.
