Fare construction

The rules by which a multi-sector price is assembled — which cities may combine, over which connecting hubs, at which proration. Construction is why a Chicago–Frankfurt–Vienna through-fare can cost less than Chicago–Frankfurt alone, and why quotes to secondary European or Asian cities over a hub often surprise on the low side. Specialists exploit construction daily; booking engines mostly do not.
