Elite status

The tier level in a frequent-flyer programme, earned on flying volume and spend, carrying upgrades, lounge access and handling priority. The negotiated-fare interaction is the common question: contract tickets book into ordinary fare buckets, so they earn toward status per the bucket’s accrual — usually identically to a published ticket at the same letter. Status is worth holding where you concentrate flying; it is rarely worth buying tickets you would not otherwise buy.
